What is an electromechanical relay and what does it do?

The electromechanical relay, also called electromechanical relay, is a type of switch that is matched to the independent electrical circuits, in order to open or close them to allow the passage of current, and through a lower current than that to be consumed by the appliance.

This is composed of several elements, as the coil (in charge of generating current) and its connections, an induced iron that will move depending on the core,and several contacts.

Operation of an electromechanical relay

The magnet or core inside will spin the iron when powered by energy, changing the state of the contacts to open or closed (NO or NC). Thus, if the coil becomes energized, the NO will close, while the NC will open.

Relay with armor

This is the traditional and most widely used electromechanical relay in the industry. In it, the magnet is responsible for tilting the armature when activated, allowing the contacts to open or close depending on the load.

Moving core relay

It is very similar to the previous model, with the only difference being that, instead of an armature, this one has a coil.

Relay type reed.

Formed by a coil surrounding a glass ampoule with a series of contacts inside to open or close the circuit.

Polarized relay

In this model, the armature is attached to a magnet, which turns on and rotates it to close the contacts; polarizing backwards will open the contacts.

Three-pole relay

Three-pole relays are used for single-phase, two-phase and three-phase processes.
