What are electrical connectors and what do they consist of?

Before you buy electrical connectors with the best features and qualities at Icompplus, it is important that you know what their main functions are in electrical circuits.

These are parts whose job is to make connections between electrical cables, or between these and any other element of the circuit. In this way, they allow a continuous path to be formed and the current to flow, thus reducing the time, effort and labour involved in the manufacture of the circuit.

Electrical connectors have male and female ends, which are joined together to form two types of connections: permanent or temporary.

What to consider when choosing your electrical connector

Once you have decided to buy an electrical connector, you should take into account a series of important factors so that you do not encounter problems later on in its use. These are as follows:

  • Cable section attached to the connector.
  • Current: The current to be withstood by the circuit is very important when choosing your online connector. It is measured in amperes (A), and the rating of the component is made from 1A to 50A.
  • Voltage: The voltage range and type of voltage for which the connector is designed. It is measured in volts (V) and can be for alternating current or direct current.
  • Operating temperature.

Types of electrical connectors online

As we have already mentioned, there is a wide variety of electrical connector types to perform an important function within the circuit, although depending on different factors on the circuit and on the users. In the following, we will mention the most important ones available in our stock.

Jack connectors

This is an electrical terminal, one of the most commonly used for audio, in charge of transporting analogue signals; it can also contain video, power or data. They come in different sizes, 2.55 mm being the smallest of the family, and each of them with its corresponding mono (TR), stereo (TRS), or stereo+microphone (TRRS) version.

TheJack Connector so well known due to its widespread use in the advent of walkmans, portable radios, mp3 players and smartphones.

Sub-D connectors

They are a electrical connector group generally used to connect different computers that have different peripherals. It has two or three parallel rows of contacts (pins) surrounded by a metal ‘shield’ (‘D’); the part with the pins is called the ‘male connector’, while the part with the holes is the ‘female connector’.

Pin strips

Apin strips is a set of, despite the redundancy, pins. These are elements also called ‘pins’, which belong to electrical connectors and are responsible for conducting electricity to connect different components without the need for soldering.

Sockets

It is a device for connecting integrated circuits on printed circuit boards without the need for soldering, thus allowing the component to be replaced without undergoing any process that could damage its structure.

The Sockets are commonly used to create memories and other similar devices that allow their internal information to be modified.
